Hello!

Welcome to the Ithaca College community! This is the first in a series of weekly newsletters from the Office of New Student and Transition Programs (NSTP). Each week, we will let you in on some local hidden gems and on-campus resources to help facilitate your transition to Ithaca College.

Your transition to college is a time for exploration and adventure. We hope these newsletters will help you find your niche and understand all the possibilities open to you from the moment you arrive on campus—and even before! We’re so excited to welcome you to the IC family!

Meet the Team!

Image of Abby, Charlie, and MaddyThis newsletter is created by Abby, Charlie, and Maddy (left to right-in image). Here is a bit about us!

Abby (she/her) is an Orientation Coordinator & Mentor. She is a rising junior English education major with minors in theatre and Deaf studies. This is her second year working for Orientation, and she is enthusiastic about creating a welcoming space for all incoming students. On campus, she is the PR & Social Media Manager for iSign ASL Club and a performer for IC Second Stage. When her nose isn’t buried in a book, she loves rock climbing, yoga, and trying out new recipes!

Charlie (he/him) is one of two graduate student interns working in NSTP this summer. During the academic year, he is pursuing a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs from The Ohio State University. His passion for serving students was sparked during his first experience of orientation— at the University of Iowa. Charlie is a big fan of running, food, and being outdoors and is excited to be at Ithaca College this summer.

Maddy (she/her) is also an Orientation Coordinator & Mentor. She will be a senior in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance, where she is majoring in health sciences with a planned clinical emphasis in genetics. She has been a part of Orientation since her first summer at IC and cannot wait for you to join everyone this fall! Outside of school and work, she loves to play intramural soccer and hang out downtown on the Ithaca Commons with her friends.

IC Tradition: Visit the Farmers Market

Image of Students at Farmers MarketEach week, we will highlight a different IC tradition! Download IC Traditions Challenge to track your Ithaca adventures. Completion of each tradition adds to your point total and counts toward prizes like wristbands, phone wallets, and even sweatshirts. This week’s tradition is the Ithaca Farmers Market; when you go, snap a picture and upload it to the app!

Open weekends year-round, the Ithaca Farmers Market is a staple of community life in our town. Support local farms and businesses, and find delicious food at the open air market. Vendors offer fresh produce, hot meals, Ithaca-themed merchandise, and apple cider donuts. The pavilion on the lake provides a beautiful backdrop for this quintessential Ithaca experience!
