Office Highlight: Library

Image of the Library at Ithaca CollegeDid you know that you can schedule an appointment with a librarian who specializes in the field of any topic you may have to research? Research can feel daunting, but IC librarians are eager to help you with anything—from finding a book or article, to citations, to in-depth research. Consult with them in person or via Zoom, chat, phone, or email.

Follow the IC Library on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for the latest news and updates!

CHECK OUT THE LIBRARY

Financial Support Available for Students Needing Help to Buy Course Materials

Image of the Library at Ithaca CollegeStudents who need financial support in order to be able to buy their course materials can apply for up to $200 of course material vouchers to be used to purchase their textbooks and other items. (Akademos is our textbook and other course material provider.) Apply by completing a Student Emergency Relief Fund Application immediately. The awards committee will review applicants for financial need and award the funds beginning August 10, 2021, on a first-come, first-served basis until all awards have been granted. In order to support as many students as possible, each student will be able to receive an award of up to $200 each semester. Students must provide an itemized list of their course materials as part of the application.

Student Org Spotlight: Habitat for Humanity

Image of Habitat for Humanity at Ithaca CollegeIC Habitat for Humanity is a collegiate chapter of the international nonprofit organization that seeks to create a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Beyond that, our members are part of a community that brings people together to build hope. Members of IC Habitat for Humanity attend builds at the local Habitat House and volunteer at Second Wind Cottages. During our general meetings, members learn about the homelessness crisis in Tompkins County as well as what students can do to address it and reduce the stigma of homelessness.

If you have any questions or would like to be included on our email list, please reach out to ithacah4h@gmail.com! We would love to have you join us!

Image of a Student Focusing On a LaptopAs an incoming IC student, you are required to take three self-paced online workshops:

  • Alcohol Edu will empower you to make smart decisions and teach you strategies you need to help keep yourself and your friends safe while in college.
  • SHARE (Sexual Harassment and Assault Response Education) will help you foster healthy relationships and understand your personal responsibilities to prevent and report sexual harassment and violence.
  • Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion addresses key themes such as identity, power, privilege, oppression, and unconscious bias and teaches strategies for self-care and creating equitable environments.

These modules can be accessed via your New Student Checklist and must be completed before you move to campus in August.

IC Tradition: Porchfest

Image of Students Performing at PorchfestIthacans love their festivals—and Porchfest is  a fan favorite. Porchfest is an annual music festival that celebrates the “vital creative community of downtown Ithaca.” Professional and avocational musicians perform on porches in Ithaca’s Fall Creek & Northside neighborhoods—both within walking distance of campus. Stroll the neighborhoods and listen—and dance!—for hours to free acoustic performances.

The festival committee hopes to hold Porchfest 2021 on Sunday, September 26, so save the date! Keep current on all things Porchfest @porchfestithaca on Instagram and Twitter.
